I translate "make your own luck" to "create your own opportunities". But this really spoke to me, coming from the small town I live in where there are not a lot of filmmaking opportunities. And when they do sometimes arise, they may not be at the quality level you were hoping. So, you are basically forced to create your own opportunities. And the way this is done is by writing and producing your own material. There's nothing wrong with working on other people's stuff. But at the end of the day, we all want to find our own voice as filmmakers. And diving deep into creating your own stuff seems like the best way to do this. So what are you waiting for? If you are going to take a risk it may as well be on your own vision.
